Air Bags ODI 11633332 12/31/2024

The panel that holds in the knee airbags under the steering wheel came open for no reason and exposed the air bag. The vehicle was not involved in a crash and appears to be a manufacture workmanship issue.

I WAS EASING OUR 2015 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE INTO A PARKING SPOT AT A TRAIL HEAD PARKING LOT WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. I FULLY ENGAGED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP THE VEHICLE, AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AT FULL THROTTLE OVER THE TOP OF A 2.5 FT BY 2.5 FT CEMENT BLOCK PARKING BARRIER. IT DRAGGED THE CEMENT BLOCK ABOUT 20-25 FT. I CONTINUED TO PRESS THE BRAKE AND AFTER ABOUT 40…

Questions

FAQ

Is the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee reliable?
Owners have filed 1,365 safety complaints with NHTSA for the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, most often about power train. Compare the complaint counts across model years above — a year with far more complaints than the model's average is the strongest 'avoid' signal in public data.
Which Jeep Grand Cherokee years should I avoid?
The rule of thumb used by analysts: a model year whose complaint count is well above the model's own average (we flag 2× or more) usually had a real manufacturing or design problem — not just noisy reporting. Use the year-by-year strip on this page.
Where do these complaints come from?
Directly from NHTSA, the US government road-safety agency. Any owner can file a Vehicle Owner Questionnaire; NHTSA publishes them as public domain data. We cache each lookup for up to 7 days.
Do complaints mean a recall is coming?
Sometimes. NHTSA opens defect investigations when complaint patterns emerge, and investigations can end in recalls. Check the recalls page for this vehicle to see what has already been recalled.
