WHILE SLOWLY TURNING LEFT TO PARK AT A GAS STATION I HEARD A "SNAP" AND FOUND THAT MY AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND NONE OF THE CONTROLS ON MY STEERING WHEEL WERE WORKING. AFTERWARDS I NOTICED A CONSISTENT CLICKING NOISE WHENEVER I WOULD TURN THE WHEEL. AFTER RESEARCHING I AM CONFIDENT THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH THE RIBBON WIRE LEADING DOWN THE STEERING COLUMN FROM THE CLOCK SPRING…

I WANT TO REFERENCE NHTSA COMPLAINT ID # 10883887, FILED ON 7/11/2016 BY ANOTHER CONSUMER, BECAUSE I HAVE EXPERIENCED EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM THAT THEY DESCRIBED WITH THE BRAKES ON MY 2015 VW TIGUAN. AS THEY SAID, THE PROBLEM OCCURS RANDOMLY, TYPICALLY WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED AT LOW SPEEDS, AND IN MY CASE, SOMETIMES (BUT NOT ALWAYS) IT SEEMS TO BE LINKED WITH APPLYING TH…

MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS 42000 MILES ON IT. 6000 MILES OVER WARRANTY. AS I WAS TURNING I HEARD A RATTLING AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON, HORN DOESN'T WORK AND STEERING WHEEL BUTTONS DO NOT WORK. DEALERSHIP SAID IT'S THE STEERING WHEEL CLOCK SPRING IN THE STEERING WHEEL. SAME ISSUE AS 2010-2014 RECALLS. THE PART IS DEFECTED AND DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO PAY FOR IT. IF I WRECK THE AIRBAG…

Air Bags ODI 11627405 11/26/2024

Car was recently repaired from a deer related accident. Within a week of getting car back I heard an unwinding like sound from steering wheel area while making a left hand turn into parking lot. My airbag light came on and all steering wheel functions like buttons and horn ceased to operate. I did see that this year Tiguan did have an airbag recall.

Questions

FAQ

Is the 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan reliable?
Owners have filed 62 safety complaints with NHTSA for the 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan, most often about air bags. Compare the complaint counts across model years above — a year with far more complaints than the model's average is the strongest 'avoid' signal in public data.
Which Volkswagen Tiguan years should I avoid?
The rule of thumb used by analysts: a model year whose complaint count is well above the model's own average (we flag 2× or more) usually had a real manufacturing or design problem — not just noisy reporting. Use the year-by-year strip on this page.
Where do these complaints come from?
Directly from NHTSA, the US government road-safety agency. Any owner can file a Vehicle Owner Questionnaire; NHTSA publishes them as public domain data. We cache each lookup for up to 7 days.
Do complaints mean a recall is coming?
Sometimes. NHTSA opens defect investigations when complaint patterns emerge, and investigations can end in recalls. Check the recalls page for this vehicle to see what has already been recalled.
