The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the contact shifted into reverse; however, the rearview camera intermittently was upside down, flashed on and off, and then became dark. The vehicle failed to return to normal operation. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer; however, the diagnostic result was un…

Unknown Or Other ODI 11562825 12/31/2023

Lug-nuts corroded under the plating causing the service dealer (NTB) to not be able to get the proper size wrench on them to remove and then re-tighten. They said new lug-nuts would be required to service the tires (been driving and servicing vehicles for 50+ years, this is the first vehicle I had to replace the lug-nuts). Had to purchase a new set of 20 lug-nuts to resolve …

Structure ODI 11562860 12/31/2023

Our Ford Escape 2014 has two safety recalls. My complaint is that they didn't fix it timely. One of the door latches failed and the door was opened by itself on the road in August 2022. I have taken the car to a local FORD dealership and got it inspected. They said they would request the parts and fix it. However, nothing happened after weeks of waiting. I have checked back ma…

Fuel/propulsion System ODI 11499655 12/31/2022

I have twice repaired a canister purge valve and the line that goes with it. I am having to replace it a 3rd time from the same problem that is a recall in the Ford Focus with the same engine. The first thing it does is not start after putting gas then the engine light comes on which caused me to be stuck at the gas station. I have the receipt for the 2nd time it was repaired …

Seat Belts ODI 11292214 12/31/2019

THE MIDDLE REAR SEAT BELT LATCH DROPPED BELOW THE FOLD DOWN SEAT WHEN IT WAS FOLDED DOWN. THIS MADE FASTENING THE SEAT BELT IMPOSSIBLE. THE LATCH IS INACCESSIBLE. CANNOT BRING IT BACK UP WITHOUT COMPLETELY REMOVING THE SEAT.

Questions

FAQ

Is the 2014 Ford Escape reliable?
Owners have filed 2,089 safety complaints with NHTSA for the 2014 Ford Escape, most often about engine. Compare the complaint counts across model years above — a year with far more complaints than the model's average is the strongest 'avoid' signal in public data.
Which Ford Escape years should I avoid?
The rule of thumb used by analysts: a model year whose complaint count is well above the model's own average (we flag 2× or more) usually had a real manufacturing or design problem — not just noisy reporting. Use the year-by-year strip on this page.
Where do these complaints come from?
Directly from NHTSA, the US government road-safety agency. Any owner can file a Vehicle Owner Questionnaire; NHTSA publishes them as public domain data. We cache each lookup for up to 7 days.
Do complaints mean a recall is coming?
Sometimes. NHTSA opens defect investigations when complaint patterns emerge, and investigations can end in recalls. Check the recalls page for this vehicle to see what has already been recalled.
