Cameras move, switch off and get added: the signs on the road and the publisher's own page are the final word. Places without an open, reusable camera list (New York City, Los Angeles, most of the UK, Ireland) are not shown.
Questions
Speed cameras — FAQ
Where are the speed cameras near me?
Zoom the map to your area or press the locate button. Every point comes from the open data of the authority that runs the cameras, such as the City of Chicago, DC's transportation department, Quebec's transport ministry or France's road safety agency. Areas with no points are not covered by an open dataset, which does not mean they have no cameras.
Is this a complete list of speed cameras?
No. It covers 27 official datasets in 8 countries that publish camera locations under an open licence. Many places, including New York City, Los Angeles, most of the UK and Ireland, do not publish a reusable location file, and some files are a few years old. Road signs are the final word.
What is a mobile enforcement site?
A place where a mobile camera van or trailer is allowed to set up, such as the ACT, Quebec, Lethbridge and St. Albert sites. A camera is not there all the time. Fixed speed and red-light cameras are permanent.
Are speed cameras still used in Ontario?
Toronto's open data shows red-light cameras only: the city's speed camera dataset is no longer updated. Red-light cameras in Toronto, Ottawa, Peel, York, Hamilton and Kingston are on the map.
Why show speed cameras on a road safety site?
Authorities usually put cameras where speeding or red-light running is a known problem, such as school zones and junctions with a crash record, and they publish these lists so drivers slow down there. The safest speed is still the posted limit everywhere, camera or not.
