ROOF RACK IS LEAKING ON BOTH SIDES OF MY RAV4. I CAN'T GET ANY ASSISTANCE WITH GETTING IT FIXED. IT'S A 2019 WITH 58,000 ON IT. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL POST WITH THE SAME ISSUE.

Fuel/propulsion System ODI 11292239 12/31/2019

TANK WAS ADVERTISED AS HAVING A CAPACITY FOR 14.5 GALLONS. I AM NOT ABLE TO FULLY FILL THE TANK, ONLY PUTTING IN 9 TO 10 GALLONS MAXIMUM. TOYOTA HAS STATED THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND THERE IS NO FIX. I AM UNABLE TO GET THE MILEAGE RANGE I WAS PROMISED UPON PURCHASE.

Unknown Or Other ODI 11499525 12/30/2022

As I was turning into a parking spot my car made a growling noise and suddenly lunged forward and accelerated at high speeds, hitting two cars and only stopping once the car hit a wall. I had no control of the car as it accelerated and the brakes did not work.

Fuel/propulsion System ODI 11291963 12/30/2019

THE GAS TANK DOES NOT FILL ALL THE WAY, SO I HAVE HAVING TO GO BACK AND PUMP MORE GAS INTO THE TANK. THIS SOMETIMES CAN LEAD TO OVERFLOW AND THE GAS LEAKING TO THE GROUND AND CAN BE HAZARDS.

Fuel/propulsion System ODI 11292042 12/30/2019

FUEL TANK ONLY HOLDS 10 GALLONS, TANK SHOULD HOLD 14 GALLONS. REDUCES DRIVING RANGE AND TIME TO FUEL UP - WHICH WAS THE MAIN REASON WE BOUGHT THIS CAR. WHEN DROVE CAR OFF DEALERSHIP LOT, DRIVING RANGE WAS 440 - DROVE 6 HOURS WITHOUT HAVING TO FILL UP. DRIVING RANGE WAS NEVER MORE THAN 340 AFTER THAT AND HAD TO FUEL UP ABOUT EVERY 3 HOURS. REPORTED TO TOYOTA CORPORATE.

Questions

FAQ

Is the 2019 Toyota Rav4 reliable?
Owners have filed 879 safety complaints with NHTSA for the 2019 Toyota Rav4, most often about fuel/propulsion system. Compare the complaint counts across model years above — a year with far more complaints than the model's average is the strongest 'avoid' signal in public data.
Which Toyota Rav4 years should I avoid?
The rule of thumb used by analysts: a model year whose complaint count is well above the model's own average (we flag 2× or more) usually had a real manufacturing or design problem — not just noisy reporting. Use the year-by-year strip on this page.
Where do these complaints come from?
Directly from NHTSA, the US government road-safety agency. Any owner can file a Vehicle Owner Questionnaire; NHTSA publishes them as public domain data. We cache each lookup for up to 7 days.
Do complaints mean a recall is coming?
Sometimes. NHTSA opens defect investigations when complaint patterns emerge, and investigations can end in recalls. Check the recalls page for this vehicle to see what has already been recalled.
