Published 3 min read By Live Accident Tracker Editorial

Three passengers, including a three-year-old girl, were killed and 11 others were injured when a bus carrying 60 people hit the back of a truck while attempting to overtake near Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh early on Saturday 7 November 2026.

The bus was travelling from Delhi to Muzaffarpur in Bihar when the crash happened at about 4:30am near Labaniya village, under the Tamkuhi Raj police station limits in Kushinagar district.

What happened

The bus, carrying 60 passengers, was on its way from Delhi to Muzaffarpur when it tried to overtake a truck near Labaniya village at about 4:30am. The bus collided with the rear of the truck, and the impact threw passengers from their seats.

Most of the passengers were asleep when the crash happened. One passenger, Dharmendra, from Kamalpura village in Muzaffarpur's Paroo area, said there was a sudden jolt at about 4:30am and several people fell from their seats.

The crash site was barely 3 km from Tamkuhi Raj, where several passengers were scheduled to get off the bus.

Who died

Three people were killed:

  • Nandini, 3, the daughter of Pawan, a resident of Taryal Chhiram village under Taraya Sujan police station limits. Her father was among the injured.
  • Two men, both aged around 40, whose identities had not yet been established.

Two of the three died on the spot, and the third died during treatment.

Emergency response

Passersby alerted police after the crash, and police reached the scene and rescued the passengers. The injured were taken to hospital, and four of the critically injured were referred to the district hospital.

Station house officer Amit Kumar Singh said the bodies of the dead had been sent for post-mortem examination and police had started proceedings.

Context

The Delhi to Muzaffarpur route is a long overnight journey, and buses on it carry large numbers of passengers travelling between the national capital and Bihar. Overtaking is one of the highest-risk manoeuvres on two-lane stretches of highway, especially in the early hours when drivers and passengers are tired and visibility is poor.

The crash happened in the dark, at a time when most of the bus's 60 passengers were asleep and unable to brace for the impact. That helps explain why a collision with the back of a truck, rather than a head-on crash, still killed three people and injured 11.

What happens next

Police will complete the post-mortem examinations and work to formally identify the two men who died. The condition of the injured, including the four referred to the district hospital in a critical condition, will be watched, and any further findings about the crash will be reported as they are confirmed.
