Questions

Makassar accidents — FAQ

Where do the Makassar accident reports come from?
From news coverage: every 15 minutes the site reads GDELT, Google News and GNews for accident headlines, and a gazetteer of world cities places a headline on the map when it names a city. A report is listed here when that place is within 65 km of central Makassar and Makassar is the nearest large city to it. These are news reports, not police records: the same headline syndicated by several outlets is counted once, but separate stories about one accident still count separately, and headlines without accident words or from law-firm press releases are left out.
How many accidents happen in Makassar?
In the last 30 days, 3 accident reports named a place in or near Makassar, most of them road accidents. That counts reports that made the news, not every collision — the official total for a city of this size is far higher.
Is this page real-time?
The report list is rebuilt every hour from the archive that the 15-minute news cycle writes. For an emergency call your local emergency number — see the emergency numbers page for Indonesia.

Reports are news headlines geocoded with the GeoNames gazetteer (CC BY 4.0) and matched to the nearest city of 500,000+ people within 65 km; list rebuilt 2026-10-21T09:30 UTC. See also accidents in Indonesia, all city pages, emergency numbers and how reports are placed.
