What happened
The crash happened on Friday afternoon, 6 November 2026, on the Sekayu–Betung national road at Dusun 7, Lumpatan 2 Village, in Sekayu Subdistrict, Musi Banyuasin. Four motorcycles were involved, ridden by a group of schoolchildren and a farmer.
According to AKP Rendy Novriyadi, head of traffic at Muba Police (Kasat Lantas Polres Muba), the crash began when a dark blue Yamaha N-Max ridden by Tradil, 16, was travelling from Sekayu towards Betung. On reaching the scene, Tradil's motorcycle brushed against a Honda BeAT Street ridden by Jerri, 16, who was carrying Naufal, 15, as a passenger. Both were travelling in the same direction.
The sideswipe sent the N-Max veering to the right, where it collided with a Yamaha Vixion ridden by Rudi, 38, a farmer travelling in the opposite direction. At the same time, Jerri's motorcycle collided with a Yamaha Mio ridden by Wahyu Sifa, 12, who was carrying Ouri Agustina, 13, as a passenger and was travelling in front of him.
All of the riders and passengers were hurt in the sequence of collisions, and all were taken to RSUD Sekayu hospital.
Injuries and emergency response
Four of the five injured people had minor injuries, while the rider of the N-Max, Tradil, was seriously injured with a broken right hand, according to the police account.
Police carried out a scene examination (olah TKP) at the crash site and secured all four motorcycles involved. The vehicles were taken to the law-enforcement unit of the Muba Police traffic division (Unit Gakkum Satlantas Polres Muba).
What happens next
The traffic unit is handling the case, with the vehicles impounded and the scene examined. The police account sets out the sequence of the collisions; any further action will follow from their investigation.
Chain crashes like this one show how quickly a single sideswipe can turn into a multi-vehicle incident when several motorcycles are travelling close together. Four of the six people involved were aged between 12 and 16, and the youngest rider was 12. Young riders, short following distances and riding in groups all raise the risk that one mistake cascades into several collisions.
If you ride in a group
- Keep a safe following distance — the bike in front may brake or swerve without warning
- Never ride alongside another motorcycle in the same lane; a small wobble can become a collision
- Overtake only when you have a clear view and plenty of space
- Slow down on busy national roads, where oncoming traffic leaves no room for error
- Wear a helmet every time you ride, and make sure passengers do too
- If you see a crash, call the local emergency number and do not move an injured person unless they are in immediate danger
