What happened

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Office, law enforcement responded to the scene at 7.34am on 13 October. The investigation found that 37-year-old Jesse Speed of Benton had been driving a 2021 Jeep Compass eastbound on Lydon Road, while 27-year-old Ethan Townsend of Mayfield had been operating a Nissan Maxima southbound on Oaks Road.

The sheriff's office said the two vehicles collided within the intersection in a broadside manner. A second broadside collision followed when a 2025 Ram 1500 driven northbound on Oaks Road by 57-year-old Tod Dahlberg of Benton collided with the Jeep.

McCracken County Coroner Amanda Melton pronounced Speed and Dahlberg deceased at the scene. Townsend was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-incapacitating injuries. The Reidland-Farley Fire Department, Hendron Fire Department, Mercy Regional Ambulance, Prestige Towing, McCracken County DES and the coroner assisted the sheriff's office at the scene.
